Beautification Committee

The Beautification Committee helps keep our city beautiful and encourages everyone in Washburn to do his or her part in the effort. Children and adults, private citizens and large organizations, and everyone in-between have a role to play in keeping Washburn Beautiful.

According the national organization Keep America Beautiful, Inc., "incorporating visual beauty into public spaces has proven to be an effective method for raising property values, reducing crime, enhancing the local economy, and improving public health."

Studies also show that well landscaped and beautiful sites are less littered than barren or unkempt sites.

  • The Yard of the Week Program, by sponsored by the Washburn Study Club, highlights and recognizes residents who put forth the extra effort to make their residences places of beauty.

  • The Washburn Forestry Board that calls attention to the importance of trees as elements of beauty and environmental health in our city with the help and direction of Tree City, USA.

  • Community Beautification and Improvement Projects, such as the the painting of the Sioux Ferry, Riverside Park clean-up, and the painting of downtown buildings in need of repair are just a few of the projects undertaken.
To suggest potential beautification projects on public land or to share ideas for new programs, please contact the City Office at 701-462-8558.

The Beautification Committee meets monthly with a common goal of keeping Washburn as beautiful as possible.  We strive to keep Washburn clean and offer assistance to businesses and residents with property that are in need of repair.  If you are interested in volunteering your time and thoughts to our efforts, please call 701-462-8558.
